Boris Cherny, the inventor of Claude Code, recently shared his usage tips on X (Twitter). While most of his practices align with mine, there are several points I strongly disagree with.
Point 1: Out-of-the-Box Ready
Boris begins by stating that Claude Code is ready to use out of the box, and he hasn’t made any configurations—using it in its original state.
I completely agree with this point.
Currently, aside from the official Plugin Store, I use absolutely zero MCP and zero third-party plugins. Claude Code itself doesn’t need any third-party extensions. Its configurations are text-based, so when you really need them, just copy and paste. There’s no need to collect a bunch of plugins from unknown sources like a hoarder, wasting resources.
He also mentions that Claude Code has no “best practices.” Everyone’s knowledge level and use cases are different. Even within the Claude Code team, usage varies. Find what works best and feels most comfortable for you.
