On January 19, all ByteDance apps were taken down, only to be re-listed 24 hours later.
On January 21, ByteDance released the AI IDE tool.
This service is now provided by ByteDance's Singapore-based company SPRING(SG) PTE.LTD., which offers Trae.
It is likely that this is partly to facilitate the use of GPT-4o and Claude-3.5-Sonnet models as the base, as Chinese AI programming models still lag behind. In the initial phase, Trae is probably aimed at showcasing strong performance, with future plans to support Chinese AI programming models as well.
Trae is designed for professional developers, offering more than just code completion—it can assist in end-to-end project development, making the leap from Copilot to Autopilot.
Trae offers two modes:
Builder Mode: You simply describe the app you want, and AI can build the project from scratch. This is similar to the Cursor Yolo mode.
Chat Mode: AI understands the context of your code, can answer questions anytime, provides suggestions, and supports real-time code completion within the editor.
It comes with GPT-4o and Claude-3.5-Sonnet built-in, and it's currently free to use. It supports both Chinese and English, with a Mac version already available and a Windows version coming soon.
