Is Perplexity AI Here to Save TikTok?
TikTok faces an uncertain future as a U.S. ban looms. Perplexity AI steps in with a merger offer, aiming to save TikTok’s U.S. operations. What’s next for TikTok and its creators?
TikTok's "Moment of Life or Death"
The fate of TikTok is becoming increasingly uncertain.
On the evening of the 18th, TikTok notified its U.S. users that, due to the official ban set to take effect on the 19th, TikTok would temporarily cease services for U.S. users.
On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court voted 9-0 to uphold the "ban unless sold" order for TikTok. Prior to this, President Biden stated that he would not enforce this law but would pass the "hot potato" to the incoming Trump administration.
Trump then stated on Saturday that he would "likely" give TikTok a 90-day grace period on the ban after taking office on Monday.
This means that TikTok will continue to hover on the edge of life and death until the final decision is made.
