The Battle for Interoperability Standards in AI Heats Up

This week, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis announced that their Gemini model will support the Model Context Protocol (MCP), led by Anthropic, calling it “an excellent protocol rapidly becoming the open standard for the AI Agent era.”

This comes just weeks after OpenAI CEO Sam Altman declared support for MCP.

Around the same time, Google Cloud prominently launched its own open protocol, Agent2Agent (A2A), aimed at enabling collaboration and workflow automation among AI Agents, backed by over 50 tech partners, including Salesforce and Box.
