“If measured as a percentage of GDP, this scale is comparable to the Apollo (moon landing) and Manhattan (atomic bomb) projects.”
Moments ago, at a White House press conference, President Trump, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and others jointly announced a new artificial intelligence initiative called the "Stargate Project."
Stargate Project is a newly established company that plans to invest $500 billion over the next four years to build new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States.
An initial investment of $100 billion will be made immediately. This infrastructure aims to ensure U.S. leadership in AI, create hundreds of thousands of jobs, and bring significant economic benefits globally.
OpenAI Senior Researcher Noam Brown commented, "If measured as a percentage of GDP, this scale is comparable to the Apollo (moon landing) and Manhattan (atomic bomb) projects." He also emphasized, "Investments of this magnitude only happen when scientific validation has been thoroughly examined, and there’s confidence in its transformative potential. I agree that now is the right time."
The initial equity investors in the Stargate Project include SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX. SoftBank and OpenAI are the primary partners, with SoftBank responsible for financial commitments and OpenAI handling operational responsibilities. Masayoshi Son will serve as chairman.
Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI are the key initial technology partners. Construction work is already underway, starting in Texas. The team is evaluating potential sites across the U.S. to build additional campuses and finalize agreements.
