On Tuesday, Amazon said Adam Selipsky will quit as CEO of their cloud business next month.

Matt Garman, a top AWS sales and marketing leader, will become the new CEO on June 3rd.

In a note to staff, Selipsky said he is leaving AWS after 14 years to spend more time with family. He said the cloud business's future "looks bright."

Selipsky wrote, "With the business and leadership team doing well, now is the right time for me to change and take time with family."

Garman has worked at Amazon for over 18 years, starting as an intern. He said Amazon will make some organizational changes in the coming weeks.

As CEO for 3 years, Selipsky faced challenges like slower cloud revenue growth as companies cut costs. AWS had two rounds of layoffs, cutting over 27,000 workers.

AWS also dealt with high demand for AI services and competition from OpenAI and Microsoft. Under Selipsky, Amazon invested $4 billion in Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI employees. Anthropic agreed to use AWS as its main cloud provider.
