Skills Hype? Time for a Reality Check
Reality check on AI Skills: they're powerful but not magic. Learn the hidden risks, limitations, and why they won't replace real coding expertise yet.
At the start of 2026, Skills “suddenly” became super popular.
In reality, I’ve been hyping Skills ever since they came out around October last year.
Now, seeing all the increasingly hyped-up, MLM-style Skill tutorials and shares out there, I actually want to pause and throw some cold water on everyone.
Skills are indeed powerful and very useful—no doubt about that. A lot of people seem to think that once you install a Skill, your Agent instantly turns into an omniscient, omnipotent god.
That’s not how it works.
Skills are not a silver bullet. They come with their own limitations, risks, and the path to commercialization is still completely foggy.
Here are a few harsh truths I’ve summarized from real development and usage experience.
