Can Sam Altman stay calm?
On one hand, he faces lobbying and suppression from companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, while on the other, he witnesses his allies’ ambivalent attitudes. In just one night, American cloud computing platforms like Microsoft, Nvidia, and Amazon all extended olive branches to DeepSeek R1.
As DeepSeek's momentum continues to rise, the most effective countermeasure ultimately still relies on strength.
Today, OpenAI officially launched the OpenAI o3-mini series models.
As the successor to the o1-mini model, the o3-mini is the latest and most cost-effective model in the inference series. OpenAI research scientist Noam Brown posted on the X platform:
"We are excited to introduce o3-mini, including making it available to free users. In multiple evaluations, its performance surpassed that of o1. We are fundamentally changing the relationship between cost and intelligence. Model intelligence will continue to improve, while the cost to achieve the same level of intelligence will decrease."
