Altman posted on X, stating that due to the discovery that GPT-4o was "overly sycophantic," they began rolling back the latest GPT-4o update starting Monday evening.

Free ChatGPT users have been 100% rolled back, while paid users will receive another update after the rollback is complete. Additionally, he revealed that the team is working on further fixes to the model's personality and will share more information in the coming days.

Just now, OpenAI also published a dedicated blog post addressing the issue, explaining the situation in detail and how they are handling the model's "flattering" behavior.

OpenAI emphasized that this issue is significant. ChatGPT's "sycophantic" personality has affected users' trust and experience with it. If it constantly says pleasing but insincere things, it can feel unreliable and even annoying.
