On Friday, OpenAI officially released GPT-5.4, introducing a new mode: native computer use.
Interestingly, the launch of GPT-5.4 came shortly after the well-known developer Peter Steinberger joined OpenAI. It’s hard not to speculate how much influence Peter’s arrival will have on OpenAI’s strategy in computer use and developer tools. Peter himself promoted it:
Some netizens also commented: “GPT-5.4’s release is covered in Peter Steinberger’s ‘claw prints’ everywhere! GPT-5.4 looks like OpenClaw’s architecture document was directly turned into a frontier model — and all of this happened just 3 weeks after Peter joined OpenAI.” The netizen also made some comparisons: in the past, all tool definitions had to be crammed into the prompt, wasting tens of thousands of tokens; now GPT-5.4 can look up tool definitions on demand, reducing token usage by 47%. OpenClaw, from day one, dynamically loaded skills through description matching.
