Today, OpenAI’s new model series, GPT-4.1, has arrived as scheduled.
This series includes three models: GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and GPT-4.1 nano, which are accessible only via API calls and are now open to all developers.
As this series offers similar or superior performance in many key functions, with lower costs and latency, OpenAI will begin phasing out the GPT-4.5 preview in the API.
The deprecation is scheduled for three months from now (July 14, 2025), giving developers time to transition.
OpenAI states that these three models comprehensively outperform GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini, with significant improvements in programming and instruction following.
