Only half a year has passed since he joined Anthropic.
According to reports this Thursday, John Schulman, the OpenAI co-founder who just joined the renowned AI startup Anthropic last year, has resigned from his position at the company.
"We are very sorry to see John leave, but we fully support his decision to pursue new opportunities and wish him all the best," said Jared Kaplan, Anthropic’s Chief Scientist, in an email to the media.
John Schulman joined Anthropic after leaving OpenAI in August last year, with the goal of deepening his focus on AI alignment and returning to hands-on technical work. Prior to this, he had worked at OpenAI for nine years.
Anthropic is a major competitor to OpenAI in the field of foundational AI models, with annual revenues of approximately $875 million. Its business includes directly selling access to its AI large models, as well as providing advanced large model capabilities to various companies through third-party cloud services such as AWS.
