On October 15, Jensen Huang said publicly that CoreWeave(CRWV 0.00%↑) does not need Nvidia(NVDA 0.00%↑) to provide a financial backstop, adding that the AI cloud company’s finances are improving and its financing costs are falling. His remarks quickly drew the market’s attention back to the relationship between the two companies: Nvidia is both an important shareholder of CoreWeave and a key technology supplier, and it also carries a contractual obligation to purchase part of its unsold compute capacity. For a cloud company that is building AI data centers at scale and relying on external financing to fund its expansion, this relationship has long gone beyond that of an ordinary supplier and customer.
The pressure on CoreWeave also has a clear financial backdrop. As of June 30, 2026, the company disclosed total debt of about $35.6 billion and a revenue backlog of about $104 billion, while continuing to invest in servers, networking equipment, and data center infrastructure. A large contract backlog shows that customer demand is highly visible, but it does not translate directly into cash flow, nor does it automatically eliminate financing and construction risk.
