Two Men Pull the Global AI Community into a Major Lawsuit — Trial Officially Begins
Today, Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman officially opened in federal court in Oakland, California.
In the early hours of today, jury selection was completed. After five hours of screening, the court selected 9 jurors from 40 candidates. Altman and Brockman appeared in person, while Musk himself was absent. Opening statements are scheduled to begin tomorrow. A major tech drama that has captured attention in Silicon Valley for the past decade has now officially moved into the courtroom. The liability phase is expected to conclude by May 21.
Notably, according to previous media reports, in addition to the three main figures—Musk, Altman, and Brockman—the witness list includes Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, OpenAI’s former Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever, former CTO Mira Murati, and several other current and former executives from Microsoft, OpenAI, and xAI.
