After a two-month hiatus, Mistral AI has finally released a new update.
"Today, we are thrilled to announce the launch of Mistral Medium 3, further enhancing the efficiency and usability of language models."
According to the official blog, Mistral Medium 3 occupies a new performance tier, positioned between lightweight and large-scale models. The model outperforms GPT-4o and even Claude 3.7 Sonnet in key benchmark tests.
However, Mistral Medium 3 is not open-source and is currently accessible via Mistral’s website, API, or through its partners’ APIs. It will be available on AWS’s Sagemaker platform starting Wednesday and will later expand to other hosting platforms, including Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry and Google’s Vertex AI.
Designed specifically for enterprise use, the model achieves over 90% of Claude 3.7 Sonnet’s performance in benchmark tests but at just one-eighth the cost—$0.4 per million tokens for input and $2 per million tokens for output. In contrast, Sonnet’s input/output prices are $3 and $15, respectively.
