Apple is trying to Let You "Use Your Brain" to Operate Your iPhone.
No, it's not a metaphor—it's literal. By just thinking, you could operate digital electronic products like iPhones, iPads, and Vision Pro.
Apple is collaborating with brain-computer interface company Synchron to develop new technology aimed at helping patients with spinal cord injuries or ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) control iPhones using their thoughts.
In other words, your brain will become the next input method.
Controlling iPhones with Thought: Sounds Crazy, But It's Happening
It sounds like science fiction, but this technology is actually in development.
Synchron uses a device called Stentrode, shaped like a stent, which is surgically implanted into veins above the motor cortex of the brain. The Stentrode can read neural signals from the brain and convert them into actions for selecting icons on a screen.
You might ask: What does this have to do with Apple?
Stentrode will integrate with one of Apple's built-in accessibility features: Switch Control. This assistive feature was originally designed for people with mobility impairments, supporting interface operation via buttons, head movements, eye tracking devices, and more.
Now, it has a new option: your brain.
