Microsoft’s(MSFT 0.00%↑) Azure revenue grew 48%, while Google(GOOG 0.00%↑) Cloud revenue grew 103%. The two tech giants recently reported strong cloud results. After the earnings releases on October 28, however, Microsoft drew a relatively positive market response, while Alphabet’s shares came under pressure in after-hours trading.

The growth rates of the two companies differ markedly, and the market’s reactions have diverged, suggesting that the criteria by which the market judges AI commercialization are changing.

Competition in enterprise AI has now extended from model capability to compute supply, cloud platforms, enterprise software, and application deployment. Microsoft has Azure and a mature enterprise software ecosystem, while Google links its in-house TPUs, Gemini models, Google Cloud, and search advertising. Both companies have the foundation to turn AI technology into revenue.
