Microsoft Makes $7.6B in One Quarter from OpenAI

Today, Microsoft released its fiscal year 2026 second-quarter earnings report (corresponding to the calendar year’s Q4 2025), with AI continuing to fire on all cylinders.
In this quarter, Microsoft‘s revenue grew 17% year-over-year to $81.3 billion. On a non-GAAP basis, net income increased 23% to $30.9 billion; on a GAAP basis, net income surged 60% to $38.5 billion.
Behind this staggering 60% growth rate, Microsoft earned approximately $7.6 billion in net gains from its investment in OpenAI. In the same quarter last year, this figure was a loss of $939 million.
Microsoft also mentioned Anthropic in its quarterly earnings report, noting that the latter’s commercial bookings grew 230%, which is expected to significantly drive Microsoft’s future revenue growth.
