Today, Google AI announced a groundbreaking hybrid analog-digital quantum simulation method that enhances controllability while maintaining speed, revolutionizing traditional quantum simulation approaches. This method achieves significant breakthroughs in studying quantum thermalization and critical phenomena.
Traditional quantum simulations face two major challenges: poor flexibility, where purely digital quantum simulations are extremely slow and often disrupted by noise; and lack of control despite high speed, where fast simulations fail to precisely control interactions among all particles. For example, simulating a scenario with half the particles at high temperature and half at low temperature is challenging to set up spatially, often starting from simple initial states.
Google’s hybrid simulation method combines the strengths of both approaches, ensuring simulation speed while enhancing controllability. According to cross-entropy benchmark tests, Google’s new method has surpassed traditional simulations.
