Recently, Meta has been making significant moves.
A few days ago, foreign media reported that Mark Zuckerberg is assembling an expert team called the "Super Intelligence Team" to achieve general artificial intelligence, offering nine-figure salaries to attract talent.
Just now, Meta announced another major development: the launch of V-JEPA 2 (Video Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture 2), a world model trained on video data. It boasts state-of-the-art environmental understanding and prediction capabilities, enabling zero-shot planning and robot control in new environments.
Meta stated that in their pursuit of Advanced Machine Intelligence (AMI), the key lies in developing AI systems that can perceive the world like humans, plan execution strategies for unfamiliar tasks, and efficiently adapt to ever-changing environments.
This time, Meta’s Chief AI Scientist, Yann LeCun, personally introduced the differences between world models and other AI models.
He explained that a world model is an abstract digital twin of reality, which AI can reference to understand the world and predict the consequences of its actions. Unlike language understanding, world models enable machines to comprehend the physical world and plan action routes to complete tasks without requiring millions of trials, as they provide a fundamental understanding of how the world operates.
