During the previous sessions, we explored how to equip large models with instruction-following and chain-of-thought capabilities, which are critical techniques in prompt engineering.

Today, we will delve into the origins of prompt engineering—contextual learning.

What is Contextual Learning?

Contextual learning refers to the model's ability to understand and utilize contextual information to enhance the accuracy and relevance of generated content.

In simple terms, contextual learning involves designing prompts that guide the model to produce more accurate and relevant outputs.

For instance, if we want a natural language generation model to write an article on climate change, we can use a prompt like:
"Write a detailed analytical article about climate change."
This prompt helps the model understand the specific requirements, enabling it to generate content relevant to climate change.

In a question-and-answer system, if someone asks, "What is deep learning?", provide a more detailed prompt like:
"Please explain the basic concepts of deep learning and its application areas."
allows the model to better understand the question and deliver a more comprehensive and accurate response. Optimizing prompt design can enhance the effectiveness of contextual learning, thereby significantly improving the model's performance and output quality.
