Is AI starting to compete on information asymmetry?

In the early hours of August 14, OpenAI, in partnership with AI chip maker Cerebras, officially previewed a new service tier for its flagship model GPT-5.6 Sol: “Ultrafast Mode.”

In this mode, GPT-5.6 Sol can achieve output speeds of up to 750 tokens/s. Compared with the current Standard mode baseline of around 53 tokens/s, this represents a speed increase of up to 14×, with no reduction in quality whatsoever. In cross-comparisons, the accelerated GPT-5.6 Sol is 11× faster than Fable 5 and 5× faster than Opus 4.8 in Fast mode.

Ultrafast Mode will first launch in the OpenAI API and is currently available in a limited preview to selected customers.

To this end, OpenAI and Cerebras also produced a comparison table of the current speed and intelligence of advanced large AI models, with GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast occupying an absolutely leading position.
