1106 Days: OpenAI Goes from Table-Flipper to Having Its Table Flipped

With the release of Google Gemini 3, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman last week issued a rare “Code Red” alert and announced that all resources would flow back to the ChatGPT mainline, with all other businesses taking a back seat.

This marks the first time since OpenAI’s founding that it has entered a “red alert” state, and the first time it has so explicitly acknowledged: the competitive pressure has become so great that an all-out response is necessary.

And today, OpenAI released the GPT-5.2 model, throwing a powerful punch. GPT-5.2 will be made available to ChatGPT paid users and to developers through an API, in three versions:

  • Instant: Speed-optimized version, suitable for routine tasks such as information queries, writing, and translation

  • Thinking: Excels at handling complex structured tasks, such as programming, analyzing long documents, mathematics, and planning

  • Pro: Premium version, focused on delivering ultimate accuracy and reliability in high-difficulty tasks

No More Small Talk, Real Work: GPT-5.2 Enters the Professional Workplace
