Google has a new AI coding agent - and it's now free for everyone to use | TechRadar

Google's "AI Coding Worker" Jules Officially Launches

Recently, Google's version of an "AI coding worker" — the asynchronous coding agent tool Jules — has finally officially launched.

Since being publicly announced by Google Labs in December last year, Jules underwent nine months of testing and improvements before officially shedding its "beta" label on August 6th, celebrating its "coming of age" and being formally launched to the paid user market.

Currently, Google is already using Jules for some internal project development and is actively promoting the use of this tool across more projects.

Unlike traditional coding tools, Jules is an asynchronous, agent-based coding tool. Additionally, in terms of the development ecosystem, Jules can integrate with GitHub to achieve task automation.

This series of features transforms Jules into a 24-hour on-call AI programming assistant. When you assign it tasks like bug fixes and code updates, it automatically does three things:

  1. Copies the codebase to a Google Cloud virtual machine for independent execution

  2. Uses AI technology to solve problems autonomously

  3. Notifies you when complete

The entire process runs completely autonomously without requiring developers to monitor it. This way, developers can truly be freed from single tasks and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, naturally doubling their efficiency.
