While OpenAI is still grinding benchmark scores, Google has already broken through the application layer.
Google has released the high-speed, low-cost model Gemini 3 Flash as its flagship AI model release for the year.
This model is based on Gemini 3, which was released last month, and clearly carries the intention of stealing OpenAI’s thunder. At the same time, Google has also set Gemini 3 Flash as the default model in the Gemini app and Search AI Mode.
This new Flash model comes just six months after Google released Gemini 2.5 Flash, but it achieves significant performance leaps. Benchmark tests show that Gemini 3 Flash has massive improvements over its predecessor and reaches the level of frontier models like Gemini 3 Pro and GPT-5.2 in some metrics.
In terms of the intelligence-to-cost ratio, it has become the most cost-effective model globally.
For example, in the Humanity’s Last Exam benchmark (which aims to evaluate a model’s comprehensive capabilities across different professional domains), Gemini 3 Flash achieved a score of 33.7% without using tools. By comparison, Gemini 3 Pro scored 37.5%, Gemini 2.5 Flash scored 11%, and the newly released GPT-5.2 scored 34.5%.
