On May 2, Anthropic officially launched a new feature for Claude—Integrations.
The Integrations feature marks a new phase for the MCP (Model Context Protocol) open standard introduced last year.
In its initial phase, MCP was extremely rudimentary. While it seems quite popular now, its real-world applications, particularly in productivity scenarios, are practically nonexistent—basically close to zero.
The main reasons for this are that the protocol is overly simplistic, failing to account for many design considerations, with three major persistent issues: environment, configuration, and security.
Deploying and running an MCP server requires a specific technical environment, such as Node.js, Python, or other development environments.
For ordinary users, configuring these environments is a nightmare. The concepts alone can leave people utterly confused.
In essence, trying to solve a simple problem ends up creating a series of even more complex issues.
