At the end of last month, I went through a Claude Code update wave (2.1.248–251) and figured we’d get a few quiet days. Half a month later, it had piled up another 17 versions, all the way to 2.1.268.
I read the changelog end to end and pulled out 8 things you’ll actually use. Bottom line first: this wave includes several security fixes. If you’re on an older version, upgrade now — don’t stall.
1. /skill-doctor: a checkup for your Skills
If you play with Skills, this one’s for you. You’ve installed a dozen skills — how many have you never used since the day you added them? After my checkup, half of mine were zombies.
In the new version, run /skill-doctor , and it tells you two things: which skills have never been invoked, and how much context each skill is costing.
/skill-doctor # list idle skills and their context costThose “felt cool when I installed them, unused for half a year” skills — delete them. Context is finite. Don’t let zombies occupy the slots.
