Don’t Blame Claude Code Yet — Fix Your Terminal First

Let me start with an embarrassing story.

In my first few days with Claude Code, I typed three lines of a request and wanted a line break. My hand slipped and hit Enter — half a sentence went out. Claude replied seriously to the incomplete request. Another time I asked it to run a test suite, figured I’d grab a glass of water while it worked, and came back to find it had finished ten minutes earlier and was sitting there quietly waiting for input. That glass of water took me fifteen minutes.

None of that was Claude Code’s fault. The terminal wasn’t set up. The official docs actually have a full terminal setup guide. I went through it recently and pulled out the parts that actually matter. About ten minutes of setup, and after that it feels like “how was this ever this smooth.”
