Zed Editor Adds Anthropic-Powered AI Features

My two favorite coding tools, Gemini CLI and Zed Editor, have finally come together in a dream collaboration.

One delivers an ultimate performance experience, the other provides super-long intelligent AI context. Gemini CLI is now highly integrated into Zed Editor, bringing Gemini's powerful model capabilities directly into Zed's lightning-fast development experience.

Many people aren't familiar with Zed Editor. Actually, it's been around since 2018, developed by Nathan Sobo's team (the original creators of Atom) as a high-performance, open-source, collaborative code editor. Compared to the popular VSCode, it has remained relatively low-key, and with its ecosystem never fully established, it gradually faded from people's attention, only remaining popular in some geek circles. Now, thanks to the surge in AI coding, Zed is experiencing its second spring.

Zed stands out uniquely compared to Electron-based editors. It's built on Rust + WebGPU and rendered by GPU, enabling instant opening of large files and smooth scrolling without lag, resulting in ultra-high performance with millisecond-level response times.
