Check Your 5090 GPU: NVIDIA Confirms ROP Defect Affects Elden Ring Performance
NVIDIA acknowledges a defect in the 5090 GPU, where 4.5% of ROPs are missing, affecting game performance. The issue, impacting less than 0.5% of units, still lacks a fix for the black screen problem.

The black screen issue has not been resolved yet, and now NVIDIA has admitted to a new defect in the 5090—
The 5090 was supposed to have 176 ROPs (Render Output Processors), but some users received cards with only 168, losing 4.5%.
So far, multiple different distributor versions have shown the same issue.
ROP is the final hardware component of the GPU, handling one of the last steps in the rendering process. All rendering data must pass through the ROP before being sent to the frame buffer to output the image.
The missing ROPs most obviously lead to lower game frame rates, increased latency, and reduced anti-aliasing performance, significantly impacting the gaming experience.
