Google Chrome, the Browser with the Highest Global Market Share, Might Be Acquired by OpenAI
In the U.S. antitrust trial against Google, Nick Turley, ChatGPT’s product lead, stated that if the court rules Google must divest Chrome to restore competition in the search market, OpenAI would be interested in acquiring Chrome.
However, when OpenAI sets its sights on Chrome, the underlying motive may be far more complex than simply “building a browser.”

According to testimony from a separate case involving Android ecosystem monopolies, between 2020 and 2023, Google paid Samsung $8 billion to ensure Google Search, the Play Store, and Google Assistant were default options on Samsung mobile devices.
