Claude’s “unified” moment has finally arrived.

Just now, Anthropic announced that it is merging Claude Chat with Cowork — its product for handling complex tasks — into a single, unified version of Claude.

At the same time, Anthropic launched two new features, Claude Docs and Claude Slides, and folded Claude Design into the chat interface. What used to be just a conversation window is now following OpenAI’s all-in-one approach and becoming an AI workspace that covers writing, office work, design, and complex task execution.

One Claude for every task

Looking back over the past year, Anthropic has steadily expanded Claude’s capabilities. In January, it launched Cowork to help users complete more complex, non-coding work with AI. In April, it introduced Claude Design for web and prototype design. In July, Cowork moved further into the cloud.

As features multiplied, a new problem emerged: users no longer knew which entrance a given task should go through. A simple question could go straight to Claude; a project that needed deeper processing went to Cowork; visual design required opening Design. Because these tools were separate, users had to keep switching environments, and previously accumulated context did not carry over naturally.
