Sam Altman personally announced another “important update” for ChatGPT—

Starting now, your ChatGPT can follow instructions and stop overusing em dashes in its output.

Why would an ordinary punctuation mark warrant a personal announcement from Altman and generate such buzz?

Before this, ChatGPT was simply too fond of using em dashes to the point where this punctuation became a telltale sign for identifying AI-generated content.

What’s more, the previous ChatGPT wasn’t very obedient on this issue—even when explicitly asked not to use em dashes, it would stubbornly do so anyway.

Now, according to Altman, this problem has been fixed.
