May 6 News: Anysphere, the parent company of AI programming tool Cursor, completes $900 million funding round, with valuation soaring to approximately $9 billion, more than doubling.

Insiders revealed that this round was led by Thrive Capital, an investor in OpenAI, with participation from venture capital firms such as a16z and Accel.

Cursor enables developers to issue commands in natural language, performing tasks like code generation, debugging, and knowledge Q&A, revolutionizing the way programming is learned.

The tool has garnered praise from industry giants. OpenAI co-founder and former Tesla AI Director Andrej Karpathy stated that Cursor’s experience “crushes” GitHub Copilot, while Logan Kilpatrick, head of Google’s developer division, was stunned by Cursor’s powerful capabilities.

Cursor’s clients include notable companies like OpenAI and Midjourney, with approximately 30,000 customers currently.

In January this year, Anysphere raised $105 million. Following that round, its annual recurring revenue surged, reaching approximately $200 million in April, making it one of the fastest-growing software companies in history.

The penetration of AI in programming is growing significantly, fueling a boom in AI programming tools. According to foreign media, OpenAI has agreed to acquire AI-assisted programming tool Windsurf for approximately $3 billion, marking its largest acquisition to date.
